Small System, Big Job

Gutters don't get much attention until water ends up where it shouldn't. A good gutter system quietly carries rain and snowmelt off your roof and away from your foundation. A bad one leaks, overflows, and lets water pool against the structure, which is a real problem in a region with expansive soils.

Advanced Custom Builders installs, repairs, and cleans seamless gutters across the Missoula area. We custom-form each run on site to fit your roofline, then set the downspouts and extensions to send water the right direction, away from your home.

Why Our Gutters Work Better

It's Not Just a Trough on the Roof

A gutter system only does its job if it's seamless, sized right, and aimed away from your foundation. Here's how we get all three right.

01 — Seamless On Site

Fewer Seams, Fewer Leaks

The gutters you buy in sections at the hardware store are snapped or glued together at every joint, and every joint is a spot that can weaken and leak over time. We don't use them. Our seamless gutters are custom-extruded on site from a continuous roll of metal and fitted to your exact roofline, so there are no seams running across your runs to fail. The result is a cleaner look and far fewer places for water to escape.

02 — Foundation Protection

Water Where It Belongs, Away From Your Home

In our region, where the water ends up matters even more than the size of your downspouts. Because parts of Missoula have highly expansive soils, local residential code (IRC R801.3) requires discharging roof drainage at least five feet from your foundation. We make that our priority on every job: the runoff gets funneled completely away from your foundation walls, so water can't pool against the structure and cause it to shift. It's the difference between a gutter that just catches water and a system that actually protects your home.

03 — Sized for Missoula

The Right Size for Our Climate, Not Oversold

You don't need to pay for more gutter than your home requires. For Missoula's semi-arid climate, standard 2 × 3-inch downspouts handle local storms just fine. Our average annual rainfall is low enough that standard systems manage it easily. Oversized 3 × 4-inch downspouts are generally reserved for large commercial structures or roofs with massive, unbroken surfaces.

We'll only recommend larger downspouts when your home actually calls for it: an exceptionally steep roof pitch, a massive single-slope roof section, or gutters that are heavily prone to clogging from nearby pine needles and tree debris. Straight advice, sized to your roof.

04 — Install, Repair & Clean

The Whole Lifecycle of Your Gutters

We don't just hang gutters and disappear. We install new seamless systems, repair sagging or leaking runs, and clean gutters that have filled with leaves and pine needles. Without leaf guards, gutters should be cleaned at least twice a year, in spring and fall, to keep water flowing. With high-quality leaf guards, that drops to a quick annual rinse. Whatever your setup, we'll keep it doing its job.

Common Questions

Gutter Questions, Answered

Store-bought gutters are sectional, with multiple pieces snapped or glued together that can weaken and leak. Seamless gutters are custom-extruded on site from a continuous metal roll and fitted to your roofline, which reduces the risk of leaks.

In our region, proper water extension matters much more than downspout size. Because parts of Missoula have highly expansive soils, local code (IRC R801.3) requires discharging roof drainage at least five feet from your foundation. Our priority is funneling runoff completely away from your foundation walls to prevent shifting.

Usually not. Standard 2 × 3-inch downspouts are well suited to Missoula's semi-arid climate. Our relatively low average rainfall means standard systems easily manage local storms. Oversized 3 × 4-inch downspouts are generally reserved for large commercial structures or roofs with massive, unbroken surfaces.

We only recommend larger 3 × 4-inch downspouts when your home features an exceptionally steep roof pitch, a massive single-slope roof section, or gutters that are heavily prone to clogging from nearby pine needles and tree debris.

Without gutter guards, gutters should be cleaned at least twice a year, in spring and fall. With high-quality leaf guards, routine cleaning is reduced to a quick annual rinse for easier maintenance.

All three. We install new seamless systems, repair leaking or sagging runs, and clean gutters seasonally. Estimates are free, every project carries a one-year workmanship warranty, and we're fully licensed and insured. A small travel charge may apply outside a 45-mile radius.
